Holistic Veterinary Care for Dogs, Cats and Horses in Boulder & Nederland
Mandala Integrative Veterinary Care (MIVC) is an integrative and holistic veterinary practice for dogs, cats and horses. Our healing clinic is located in the foothills west of downtown Boulder, Colorado near Nederland. Dr Kelly Keeney specializes in integrative and holistic veterinary medicine with a focus on balanced preventative and individualized veterinary care. Dr. Keeney offers a wide range of healing modalities including acupuncture, laser therapy, Chinese and Western herbal medicine (including customized herbal treatment plans) and food therapy/nutrition counseling. House and farm calls in Boulder and some surrounding areas are also available on a limited schedule.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Dr. Keeney provides an integrative and individualized approach to veterinary care. Visits are usually around 45 min in length and, unlike most conventional practice settings, the entire length of the visit is spent with Dr. Keeney. This extended consultation time allows Dr. Keeney to develop a deeper understanding of her patient's (and their family's) needs so that she can sculpt the most supportive and effective care plan. Visits include a physical examination, acupuncture, laser if indicated, Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation (VOM) if appropriate, formulation of an herbal medicine plan, food therapy recommendations among other specialized diagnostics and treatments as needed. Dr. Keeney also offers end of life care and compassionate euthanasia for her patients when that time comes.
ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a healing modality that was first used by the ancient Chinese over 4000 years ago. It works by rebalancing the flow of blood and qi through the body via pathways called meridians. Dr. Keeney uses acupuncture both diagnostically and therapeutically. She tracks changes within the pulse in response to stimulating different acupuncture points and this guides her treatment plan. Acupuncture is nearly always a part of the comprehensive care plan at Mandala Integrative Veterinary Care.
HERBAL MEDICINE
We work with a broad spectrum of Chinese Herbs, Western Herbs and Essential Oils (topically only). In many cases Dr. Keeney develops custom formulas for individual patients as part of their herbal therapy plan.
Our herbal apothecary consists of carefully and ethically sourced herbal tinctures, capsules, powder, creams/ointments and bulk herbs for infusions. The importance of sourcing high quality, tested herbs from trusted providers cannot be understated. Working with a veterinary herbalist trained extensively in this area is critical as there are very important differences and awareness herbalists need to have when prescribing herbs to animals (ex. dosing strategies, toxicity levels, potential herb drug interactions just to name a few.)
Since 1993
"I focus on providing the body with the natural tools that it needs to heal itself from the inside out. Integrative medicine can really be the best of both worlds, drawing on the strengths of multiple medicines and techniques to find the gentlest and most effective combination for the individual. By supporting the body’s pathways to self-healing we can achieve true and lasting health."
